![]() Letter from the UBC Okanagan Student Union President Everyone faces challenges. One in five Canadians will face a mental illness in their lifetime. With 20% of Canadians experiencing mental health issues we may all have to deal with these issues at some time in our lives. What makes life harder for us all is that we live in an age where stereotypes and discrimination still exist. The stigma around mental health issues causes many to cringe, deny or to sweep the issue under the rug. Among the one (1) in five (5) who are affected by Mental Health issues, many of them are between the ages of 15 to 24. That's why we at the Student Union of the University of British Columbia Okanagan (UBCSUO), Local 03 of the Canadian Federation of Students are excited and engaged in bringing the Stand Up for Mental Health Program to our campus. This important program allows us to laugh, applaud and celebrate those who face adversity and help Canadians as they overcome it. We hail the courage of all those who face mental health issues and applaud the Stand Up for Mental Health Program Sincerely, Grayson Lepp |
