![]() Letter from TRU Student Union President Dasha Moryakova Stand Up For Mental Health is a way to fight against the public stigma, prejudice and discrimination that people face daily. Through participation with the Stand Up For Mental Health program we aid in therapy for people facing: bipolar disorder, depression, schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and other mental disorders. The best part is when this is all going on we get a laugh and a good time with stand-up comedy. The humanizing of mental health issues through comedy is a way for people to overcome ingrained stereotypes they may have. The Thompson Rivers University Students' Union is proud to be a part of brining this event to campus for students, staff, faculty and the community at large. Social justice is at the core of what the Students' Union does everyday through all of our Advocacy, Services and Entertainment. The stigmas surrounding mental health often silence those who suffer. This event brings to the forefront the issue of mental health that affects one in five Canadians today. I hope everyone makes it out to one of the two performances happening at the Thompson Rivers University, and has a great time supporting Stand Up For Mental Health.
