![]() Letter from the SFU Student Society President On behalf of the undergraduate students at Simon Fraser University, it is my pleasure to be able to support Stand Up For Mental Health this year. Stand Up For Mental Health provides an entertaining and valuable entry point to a broader discussion of mental health issues on our campus. Breaking down the isolation of mental illness is a crucial first step for those suffering with a mental illness. Stand Up For Mental Health plays a very important role in engaging and educating people about mental health issues. As I am sure you are aware, mental illness is a persistent problem in our society. One in five Canadians will deal with a mental illness in their lifetime, and everyone is affected when mental illness strikes one of our friends, family, peers, and colleagues. Mental illness does not discriminate on the basis of age, gender, race, sexual orientation, or level of education. Universities are not immune from the mental health challenges facing our society - and I am pleased that students, faculty and staff at SFU will have the opportunity to enjoy the Stand Up For Mental Health comedy performance at SFU on October 20. I am looking forward to the upcoming Stand Up For Mental Health performance, and wish you all the best with your shows at universities across Canada in October. Thank you for bringing this entertaining and much needed show to our campus. Sincerely, Ali Godson, President |
