TV documentary Laughing Through the Pain: The impact of laughter
on mental health is explored in the new documentary Laughing Through the Pain,
which airs on the Global Television Network. The one-hour documentary profiles
some of the least likely people who are doing their bit to inject a little humour
into the least likely places. Comedian and counselor David Granirer helps
recovering drug addicts to regain their self-esteem by teaching them to write
and perform stand-up comedy. Doc Willikers, one of only four therapeutic clowns
in Canada, uses his exaggerated sense of humour and oversized implements in his
pseudo-medical kit to help severely ill children and their families cope with
the pain of treatment and the fear of dying. After losing her daughter in a skiing
accident, Mavis Pickett realized she needed help to deal with her grief. She turned
to David Granirers comedy class and began to cope with her loss for the
first time. |
