Message from
Heather Munroe-Blum principal
McGill University

Every September, we at McGill enjoy the renewed academic rigor and student life that flourishes as students, faculty, and staff return to our campuses with new energy and excitement. University life offers students a chance to be exposed to new ideas and to pursue areas of study that will help them to grow and develop emotionally and personally, as well as academically. For that reason, we are delighted to present Stand Up for Mental Health Day at McGill, an important opportunity for our entire community to endorse positive mental health in a meaningful way.

The performance by the "Stand Up for Mental Health" comedy troupe aims to promote discussion, shatter stereotypes, and showcase the diversity and resilience of people who are living with mental illness across North America. "Stand Up for Mental Health" uses laughter as a powerful tool to dispel stereotypes about people with mental illnesses and to promote understanding. These performances are taking place across the country thanks to the pioneering spirit of a group of people who refuse to allow common misconceptions about mental illness to keep them from leading exceptional lives.

We at McGill welcome Stand Up for Mental Health Day as a student-focused initiative that aims to enrich student life and learning by shining new light on an issue that affects every one of us. It encourages new and returning members of the community to become informed and to speak openly about mental health issues and to seek support when needed.

As Principal of McGill University, I wish to extend my deep appreciation to the members of "Stand Up for Mental Health" for coming to McGill to entertain and enlighten us on this important issue.

Best Wishes,

Professor Heather Munroe-Blum
