Stand up for Mental Health

SMH Day at Concordia University Oct 2010

Message from Concordia Student Union President Heather Lucas

On October 7th 2010, the Concordia Student Union will be participating in the Stand-Up for Mental Health comedy show. Our Guests are SMH's founder David Granirer and a crew of newly trained stand-up comedians. It promises to be both an informative and funny evening.

Since its inception in 2004, SMH has encouraged people affected by mental illnesses to practice stand-up comedy as a form of therapy while addressing the facts, stigma, and prejudices surrounding these issues and communicating them to the greater public all across Canada. Openly talking about their experiences and problems strengthens their self-esteem while we further educate ourselves about mental illnesses.

Our primary goal is to raise this awareness on our campus and encourage other student unions and civil society to get informed as well. SMH operates in Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Guelph, Vancouver and many other cities nationwide. We are looking for making this night a remarkable one and we hope that we can count on your support.

Thank you in advance for your participation in achieving our goal. Together we will make a difference towards creating a sensitized, well-informed community.

Sincerely,

Heather Lucas, President
Concordia Student Union
