Stand Up For Mental Health:
Using Humor to Fight Stigma

By David Granirer, North America's "Psycho" Therapist/Stand-Up Comic

You have to be nuts to take counsellor and stand-up comic David Granirer's Stand Up For Mental Health program where he teaches stand-up comedy to people with mental illness, but the results can be life-changing! This hilarious presentation is part comedy and part education. David, who himself suffers from depression, looks at how humour can help fight the stigma around mental illness. Through video clips, you'll get to see examples of his comics breaking down barriers by finding the lighter side of their mental health journeys.

By doing stand up comedy, something that most so-called "normal" people would never want to attempt, the Stand Up For Mental Health comics fight stigma by demonstrating what people with mental illness are capable of.

So often conferences bring in experts to talk about mental illness. This is a chance to actually hear from the people who have it. And what they have to say will surprise, delight, and inspire you!

I'm OK But YOU Need Professional Help:
The Lighter Side of Mental Health!

By David Granirer, North America's "Psycho" Therapist/Stand-Up Comic

Laugh your head off at this thought-provoking presentation looking at the lighter side of mental health. If you are a counselor, psych nurse, social worker, occupational therapist, psychologist, psychiatrist, PSR practitioner, therapist, consumer, family member, or anyone else who deals with your own or other people's mental health, you'll love listening to David's irreverent, neurotic views on his experiences as both a client and a counselor.

This presentation is available as a straight comedy act or as a combination of comedy and education. In the educational part of the presentation you'll learn:

  • How to use humor to overcome burnout.
  • How humor lessens the effects of trauma.
  • How humor builds self-esteem.
  • How to help clients use humor to generate insight.
  • How your people can use humor to turn their dysfunctions into strengths.
  • How humor can help combat public stigma.
